JAC Hunter PHEV undergoes local vehicle dynamics development with Multimatic's Michael Barber.
JAC Motors Australia has enlisted one of the country's most respected vehicle dynamics engineers to ensure the upcoming Hunter PHEV ute is genuinely optimised for Australian conditions.Engaging global engineering firm Multimatic, Australian vehicle dynamics specialist Michael Barber - known for his integral role on the critically acclaimed VE and VF Holden Commodore generations - is leading the Hunter's local vehicle dynamics tuning, focusing on suspension optimisation across the full range of conditions Australian drivers encounter daily.
"Australian roads are unique," Barber said. "We have challenging surfaces, long distances, and demanding conditions from urban to Outback. I want customers to find Hunter easy to drive and confident across all those conditions, straight out of the box."
JAC has provided Barber with an extensive library of tuning components, giving the program scope to explore different configurations before landing on the optimal setup. The work spans payload performance, steering precision, and ride comfort - both on-road and off - with the goal of delivering a suspension system where every component works as a unified whole.
Notably, the Australian program extends beyond local roads. JAC Australia Technical Director Hongjian Jiang confirmed Barber's work will also influence the Hunter's suspension tune for China and other international markets.
"Michael brings a level of dynamics expertise that is rare globally," Jiang said. "His involvement is invaluable for the JAC Hunter PHEV in the Australian market."
Managing Director Ahmed Mahmoud framed the work Barber is conducting as consistent with JAC's broader approach to the Australian market. "His understanding of what Australian drivers expect will make Hunter match-fit and ready for work."
The Hunter PHEV is scheduled to launch in Australia in mid-2026, backed by JAC's All Roads Assurance ownership package, including a seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty covering commercial use, capped price servicing, 24/7 roadside assistance, and a warranty loan vehicle program.
