Hunter PHEV: Starting price, towing, and payload confirmed.

5th May 2026

For months, Australian ute buyers have been asking the same three questions: price, towing, payload. Today, JAC Motors Australia delivers and resets expectations in the process.

The all-new Hunter PHEV 4x4 ute starts from under $50,000 MSRP, a breakthrough price point for a ute delivering this level of performance, capability and efficiency. And the headline specs apply across the entire range: 3,500kg braked towing[H1] and 915kg payload[H2], no matter which variant you choose. And when it comes to doing the hard work, Hunter doesn’t hold back.

Power that means business
Built on a dual powertrain system combining a 2.0T GDI engine with dual electric motors, Hunter produces a class-leading 360kW. A 31.2kWh LFP battery supports up to 1,005km combined range[H3] and just 1.6L/100km combined fuel consumption (NEDC)[H4].

4WD with front and rear differential locks and V2L capability ensure Hunter is as versatile on the worksite as it is on the open road.

Towing confidence without compromise
Unlike conventional hybrids, Hunter delivers full 3,500kg towing capacity, providing consistent, dependable performance when it matters most. This is towing engineered for real world Australia, not laboratory conditions.

Engineered with global performance expertise
Hunter's ride, handling and steering balance is backed by world class engineering collaboration, with input from Michael Barber of Multimatic - the engineering firm behind some of the most advanced high-performance and off-road vehicle programs in the world. The result is a ute that performs confidently under load, not just on paper.

A new benchmark in value.
“Our focus was simple, deliver a truly work ready ute with class leading power, serious towing capability and outstanding efficiency, without the premium price tag,” said Ahmed Mahmoud, Managing Director at JAC Motors Australia. “With Hunter, we’re giving Australian buyers everything they’ve been asking for and more, at a price point that changes the conversation.”

Built for Australia. Proven the hard way.
Hunter isn’t just designed for Australia, it’s been tested here. Under Project: No Shortcuts, Hunter completed a 50,000km local validation program, tackling extreme heat, heavy rain, rough unsealed roads and long distance touring.

Because real capability isn’t claimed, it’s proven.

Reservations open Tuesday 5 May at 5pm AEST at jacute.com.au/hunter, with an exclusive offer for the first 1,000 customers# who reserve and take delivery of their Hunter PHEV.

[H1]Towing capacity is subject to towbar/towball capacity. The capacity may be reduced if a non-genuine JAC towbar is fitted.

[H2]Payload is the GVM minus the Kerb mass. The kerb mass does not include passengers, luggage, cargo, any accessories fitted or any towball download (as appropriate). Payload is distributed across both the front and rear axles; never exceed the GVM or the axle limits.

[H3]Combined range is theoretical based on NEDC test results. Actual driving range achieved may vary due to factors including but not limited to driving style, road and traffic conditions, environmental influences, vehicle condition, accessories fitted and battery age/condition. The combined range is an estimate of electric and fuel-powered range combined. These figures are intended as a guide only.

[H4]Fuel consumption results achieved in ADR81/02 fuel consumption testing. Results produced in laboratory test conditions, using sample vehicles without fitment of accessories/customisation, and do not reflect real world driving. Figures should only be used for comparative purposes.
