What size battery does the JAC Hunter PHEV have?
The JAC Hunter PHEV is equipped with a 31.2 kWh lithium-ion battery.
This large battery capacity helps deliver up to 100km of EV-only driving, allowing many Australians to complete their daily commute, school drop-offs or local errands using electric power alone.
When the battery charge is low, Hunter’s engine kicks in and the petrol engine and electric motors work together to optimise efficiency and performance. Combined with a 77L fuel tank, Hunter delivers up to 1,005km of combined driving range, helping reduce range anxiety on longer journeys.
What warranty does the Hunter PHEV battery have?
The JAC Hunter PHEV's high-voltage battery is backed by an 8-year / 150,000km warranty (whichever occurs first)[W4], providing peace of mind for long-term ownership.
Do I have to plug in Hunter to drive it?
No. The petrol engine generates power for the EV battery while you drive. Plugging in simply maximises your electric range, fuel savings and efficiency, but it's never a mandatory requirement.
What charging equipment comes with Hunter?

How much does it cost to charge Hunter at home?
Charging Hunter at home is typically the most affordable way to power your vehicle.
Charging overnight on an off-peak electricity tariff can cost as little as $1.44 to $2.70 per 100km of driving, depending on your electricity provider, location and charging habits. Does Hunter support DC charging?
Yes. 15–80% in around 30 minutes [H3]. Not all plug-in hybrid utes in Australia offer this. Hunter does.
Can I charge at public charging stations?
Yes. Hunter is compatible with both AC public chargers and DC chargers, giving you flexibility wherever you go.
What does it cost to charge at a public charging station?
Public charging costs vary depending on the network, location and charger type. Most networks charge by the kilowatt-hour (kWh) or by the minute, and some offer free charging at select locations. How do I switch between EV and HEV Mode?
No digging through touchscreen menus. Press the dedicated Power Mode button on the centre console. Located within easy reach of the driver, it allows you to quickly switch between EV and HEV Mode. Your selected mode will then be displayed in the instrument cluster.
What is EVMax Mode?
EVMax Mode lets you drive using battery power alone, with up to 100km of EV-only range.* Perfect for daily commutes, errands and anything in between, without using a drop of fuel.
What is HEV Mode?
HEV Mode automatically combines the petrol engine and electric motors to optimise performance, efficiency and range based on driving conditions. You don't need to manage the switch. Hunter does it for you.
How do I know how much battery I have?
Hunter's digital dashboard displays your battery level at all times.
What happens when the battery runs low?
Hunter automatically manages battery charge using the petrol engine. You won't be left stranded.
How far can I drive on a full charge and tank?
Hunter delivers up to 100km of EV-only range and up to 1,005km of combined driving range on a full charge and tank.* Enough for daily driving on electricity alone, with the petrol engine there when you need to go further.
What fuel does Hunter use?
Unleaded petrol. Hunter is also E10 compatible.
Can I tow with Hunter?
Yes. Hunter is designed for exactly this, automatically delivering the right balance of power and efficiency when you're towing, loaded up or driving in demanding conditions. Hunter’s braked towing capacity is 3,500 kg.
Can I install a DC charging in my home or workplace?
Yes. Hunter is compatible with DC charging, allowing the battery to charge from 15–80% in around 30 minutes [H3].
While DC chargers can be installed at homes and workplaces, they are typically more common in commercial settings due to their higher installation costs and power requirements.
For most owners, an 11kW AC charger provides a practical and convenient solution, charging Hunter from 15–100% in as little as 3.5 hours - perfect for overnight charging at home or during the workday.
